Location: St.John's, Newfoundland
Date: 2009-01-13

Purpose: This 12 month project will involve participants who have experienced or are at risk of sexual violence in the development and delivery of 12 community workshops and production of information tool kits on how to dispel sexual violence myths. This initiative will complement the funding of a 6 year provincial strategy “Violence Prevention Initiative 2006-2012” , to reduce/prevent violence and its impacts. The women will be trained to help their peers. This innovative project will empower women and educate service providers and front-line workers. Women at a higher risk of sexual violence will be provided with knowledge in self-protection, assertiveness and defence. Targeted service providers will be better equipped to address victims’ needs with effective responses. As a result of this interactive process, a positive impact on women and healthy attitudes towards women victims of violence will be apparent in the community.
