Purpose: The goal of this 18-month project is to develop transferable skills such as business accounting, customer service, marketing, costing, pricing, cash handling etc. among 35 immigrant women through hands-on-training. An additional 104 immigrant women will participate in five different workshops; connect with financial institutions, and put into practice new skills and knowledge at six food selling events. A financial/business training and criteria manual for participants will be developed. The majority of the participants are women of traditional cultures who require family support to work outside of the home, therefore, 20 teenagers and 10 husbands will be involved as volunteers in the project. Through this project, participants will have developed new competencies and will be better equipped to integrate and contribute to the Canadian economy.
