Purpose: Over the course of this 36-month project, 127 women will develop financial literacy and leadership skills that will facilitate their participation, both economically and socially, in their home communities. It is based on a holistic, wrap-around model that promotes the development of self-sufficiency, self confidence and community participation, and allows participants to build on skills to develop and promote continued and sustainable community programs through leadership and mentoring. The project will be delivered through 10 self-contained modules with continuous intake that address the specific self-identified needs of the women who participate. They may include, but are not limited to, budgeting and financial management, microeconomics, community development and resource sharing (e.g., community kitchens and gardens), peer mentoring and leadership, conflict management, problem solving, accessing community resources, accessing internet resources, and employment and job readiness.
