Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Aux trois pivots
Location: Trois-Rivières, Quebec
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $193,844.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The project will enable women living in low-income housing in two disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Trois-Rivières to develop their leadership through active citizen involvement. The project has three components. First, 100 women aged 16 to 65, living under precarious financial conditions in an urban area, will take part in a series of eight workshops aimed at improving their skills, as well as their knowledge of decision-making processes. Second, 50 women will be matched with 10 sponsors from different fields (business, community, municipal politics and others), who will serve as role models for them. Twice-monthly meetings will help stimulate the development of a new outlook for the future among these highly vulnerable women, and encourage them to find ways to improve their situation. Third, three conflict resolution workshops will help familiarize them with local resources. Some of the women will then be recruited to receive training in mediation, after which they will be able to serve on a mediation committee. Finally, a problem resolution committee will be set up to harmonize police practices with the specific realities faced by these women, and to plan concerted activities to increase their safety.
