Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: South Fraser Women's Services Society – Women's Place
Location: Surrey, British Columbia
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $34,469.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: Building on a need identified in a past project, this project will design and test an online “community centre” outreach model for women in the south Asian community who have experienced domestic violence. This will create and test an online tool-set and forum for community-based peer-mentor support. The project will use available web-based social networking technologies as a resource through which the South Asian community can develop appropriate, culturally-competent primary, secondary and tertiary strategies to address the issue of domestic violence. Peer mentors will be trained so that they can provide the information and awareness that users of the system require.
