Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Justice for Girls Outreach Society
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Date: 2009-02-09
Value: $231,275.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The project will increase the awareness of marginalized teenage girls on human rights for women under the Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women so that they can use this knowledge to advocate for themselves. The girls will also encourage institutions that affect their day-to-day lives (education, child welfare, prisons) to uphold their human rights. Representatives of women's groups will learn how the Convention specifically applies to girls’ experiences in Canada so these groups can work more effectively with individual girls to ensure their human rights are realized. This project will be the domestic part of a broader international partnership to increase global awareness of girls’ human rights in which the group is participating.
Comments: Multi-year project of 36 months.
