Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Community Opportunity and Innovation Network
Location: Peterborough, Ontario
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $72,954.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 12-month project will allow 120 women to access a stable support network as they take steps towards financial independence and begin to live free from violence. Throughout the project, six organizations serving women in the Peterborough area will collaborate to create a community network of holistic supports to victimized women. Each organization will host a specific peer group that is in line with the priority population of women they serve. This will include groups of immigrant women, Aboriginal women, criminalized women, women leaving abuse, women victims of sexual violence and women experiencing homelessness. Participants will gain the tools to end violence in their lives by increasing their understanding of budgeting and personal financial literacy as well as having access to job coaching, entrepreneurial development and/or pre-employment training. Fifteen women will participate in an advisory council, guiding the project throughout its lifespan.
