Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Media Action (National Watch on Images of Women in the Media)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $115,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 18-month project will provide 200 female experts in all fields from the non-profit and academic sectors from four communities across Ontario with the skills and confidence to make their knowledge more available to the media. Participants will be enabled to write and deliver informed commentary thereby increasing the number of women experts whose voices are highlighted in the media. Media Action will work in partnership with seven universities, including the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, to ensure that their female professors are encouraged and given the opportunity to express expert opinions to the media. This project offers opportunities for systemic change by challenging the ways in which media are presented in Canada. It will give women the tools to participate in public discourse and provide Ontarians with female perspectives in the media.
