Purpose: The organization wants to form a cross-cultural citizens ’ and activities committee to promote the involvement of immigrant women in their host neighbourhood. Objectives: to mobilize 66 immigrant women (22 per year) in order to form a cross-cultural local committee with the newcomers; to enable these women to defend and represent their interests in the neighbourhood and acquire leadership skills through their volunteer involvement in leadership positions in the neighbourhood. The activities will include 10 annual meetings of the women’s committee; 12 training sessions; 21 visits to neighbourhood organizations; personal coaching sessions to help them prepare plans; and 30 presentations to neighbourhood committees. To support these activities, the group will draw on the expertise of a variety of women—facilitators who work at the Centre, researchers from the Université du Québec or the Université de Montréal, as well as immigrants (successful role models) who hold leadership positions in the host society.
