Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Saturviit Inuit Women's Association of Nunavik
Location: Inukjuak, Quebec
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $92,972.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: In March 2010, a four-day intensive training workshop will be held to prepare 27 Inuit women from around Nunavik for leadership roles in Nunavik’s social and democratic organizations. The workshop, to be held in the Hudson Coast community of Puvirnituq, will bring together women from all 14 of Nunavik's isolated Inuit communities. Training will be facilitated by members of the experienced Groupe Femmes Politique et Démocratie. This organization will adapt its tested leadership curriculum to meet Nunavik's unique cultural and geographic situation through collaboration with six renowned Inuit women resource people and Saturviit’s members. In addition to providing knowledge and skills transfer, the training format will also use a ‘train the trainer’ model to extend the project’s reach into Nunavik’s communities. Upon returning home, 14 workshop participants will conduct follow-up training in their communities, reaching an additional 48 women.
