Purpose: This 36-month project will work to develop economic, social and cultural leadership skills of women in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. This will be carried out through three main activities. First, a Women's Empowerment Group will engage women in developing basic leadership skills through facilitating healing, working towards empowerment and self-advocacy, and engaging in community action to address the issues of poverty and housing through a women’s discussion and action group. Secondly, an economic leadership component will work with women to develop individual action plans and employment coaching. The third component will work with Aboriginal women in traditional teaching circles that will be led by an elder to facilitate the development of cultural knowledge and leadership. The Centre will work with other service deliverers/organizations in the area on various activities within the project.
