Purpose: This 30-month project will address barriers that limit community efforts to deal with the issue of trafficking of women and girls for the purpose of sexual exploitation in the York Region of Toronto. The project will focus on women in that have been, or are at-risk of, being trafficked, in addition to girls and young women that are at-risk of being lured into sexual exploitation through the internet, particularly social media. The project represents a strategic partnership between stakeholders in the development of a multi-sector and collaborative action plan focused specifically on this form of trafficking. Project activities will inform the development of a community plan, as well as York Region Anti-Human Trafficking Committee's process of identifying priorities, opportunities, and strategies in addressing this form of trafficking.
