Purpose: This 24-month project will address barriers encountered by marginalized women in accessing sexual assault services in Sarnia and surrounding Lambton County. The project will build collaboration among sexual assault and abuse centres, community service providers, and local women to identify barriers, priorities, gaps in services and develop potential strategies to address the issue. A joint strategy with community service providers will be created to pilot promising practices, share knowledge, and coordinate community programs to respond to the identified gaps and barriers and improve service responses. Emphasis will be placed on establishing systems in rural communities, and on building the skills of varied community organizations to better respond to the needs of marginalized women dealing with sexual violence.
