Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Women's Legal Education and Action Fund
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Date: 2016-10-06
Value: $171,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36-month project will work to strengthen the justice system’s response to women survivors of sexual violence in Ontario through the development of an improved justice framework. Working with key partners, the project will engage women, enhance collaboration among multiple sectors and stakeholders, and use a court watch program to inform a pilot model of a framework to be tested in two communities. The framework will allow for a coordinated response to achieving justice for victims, and is anticipated to augment the number of women accessing the justice system; increase offender accountability; and, improve conditions for women who choose to report assault. The results of the pilots will be shared with decision-makers in order to bring systemic changes to the criminal justice system for sexual assault survivors.
Comments: Co-applicants in this project include: METRAC: Action on Violence, Women's Centre for Social Justice. Multi-year project.
