Purpose: This 36-month project will engage municipal institutions in Vancouver and Surrey in order to address barriers to women’s active participation in existing political and civic spaces. The current status of women’s participation in civic spaces will be assessed to make recommendations and changes to policies, protocols, and programs. Working groups will be established in both cities and knowledge gathered will inform the development and implementation of a strategy. A yearly Gender Equality Report Card will be created for both municipalities to set the stage and measure progress. Project findings, tools, and resources will be shared using the co-applicants’ networks across Canada.
