Monique Mercier - Stories - Women's History Month 2014
I'm now in charge of a team of 300 people
and I handle legal, regulatory, governmental,
corporate secretariat, real property
and corporate service affairs... so I have a lot on my plate.
Obviously, it's not always easy to balance
work and family life, three kids, but it is possible.
One piece of advice I often give is don't try to imitate men,
don't try to adopt a masculine style or try to be like men.
Because clearly... I'm older and when I started...
and throughout my entire career, I've always been in
a male-dominated environment and there's a tendency,
ultimately, to try to be like them.
I think that we have a different style,
a different leadership style. We're not the same.
Our style is more collaborative.
I don't feel ashamed or guilty about talking about my family,
so that's one of my main pieces of advice.
I think we can be ourselves, have our own style
and be very successful in our careers.
