|Purpose: ||This twelve month project will address issues of equity and inclusion in municipal decision-making. The City for All Women Initative (CAWI), in partnership with the City of Ottawa, will create an equity framework to be used in all Ottawa city departments. The Equity and Inclusion Lens will empower the City to promote equity and inclusion while recognizing the full diversity of women in all policies, programs and services.
Ten groups have been identified as most affected by social exclusion in Ottawa. These include Aboriginal women; women with disabilities; visible minorities; gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans-gendered (GLBT) individuals; immigrants; Francophones; youths; seniors; low-income women; and those living in rural areas. One representative from each of the 10 inclusion groups, community volunteers, City staff, 2 University representatives, the CAWI Project Manager and contracted experts will form a Reference Group. These representatives will be involved in the creation of the Equity and Inclusion Lens to ensure that the interests of all equity groups and city departments are considered during the process.
After the creation and testing of the Equity and Inclusion Lens, 4 Ottawa City employees will be trained to deliver orientation sessions to approximately 6 000 Ottawa City staff in 5 departments. It is anticipated that the 400 000 women living in the City will benefit directly or indirectly from City services that will meet their diversity of needs.
