|Purpose: ||This project aims to reduce the isolation of refugee/new immigrant women residing in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. The project addresses issues of isolation, lack of proper information and life skills for refugee and new immigrant women, particularly mothers and single mothers. Participants will be matched with a mentor who will assist them to gain the skills and knowledge of Canadian systems they need to establish themselves economically and socially. One-to-one mentoring will be supplemented by group activities. Each year, at least 60 members of the target group will be paired with established Canadian women, the majority of whom are immigrants. Activities will be designed to provide additional support, information, networking and learning opportunities.
